  • Commissioned by: LEGO® CEE Team (gifted to LEGO® Campus)
  • Scale: approx. 1:38
  • Model Length: 325 cm
  • Built: 2013–2014

About MS Jutlandia

MS Jutlandia was commissioned by the East Asiatic Company in 1934 and served as a combined passenger and cargo ship on routes between Copenhagen and Bangkok. During the Korean War (1951–1952), she was refitted as a hospital ship—earning the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation—then later served as a royal yacht before being decommissioned in 1965.

Technical Specs & Build Process

  • Hull-based on 1934 Maierform bow design
  • Bricks: Up to ~100,000 elements
  • Design & Build Timeframe:
  • CAD design (MLcad): ~5 months (April–August 2013)
  • Shipment delay caused build periods between Nov 2013 and Dec 2014
  • Brick construction: ~6 months of evening work

Why This Model Stands Out

  • Scale & ambition: At over 3 m long, it’s KONAJRA’s largest and most ambitious project.
  • Honor & history: Portrays a ship that served as a passenger liner, Korean War hospital vessel, and royal yacht.
  • Engineering feat:
  • Expert scaling, structural framing, and recreating interiors like wheelhouse and forecastle—all in LEGO® brick

The Build

  • This LEGO® model—Konajra’s largest ever—measures an impressive 3.25 m in length, with a width of 43 cm and height of 1.5 m. Built specifically for LEGO® World Copenhagen 2015 and now on display at the LEGO® Campus in Billund, it was constructed using 90,000–100,000 bricks
  • While the hull and lower structures were digitally designed in MLcad over a 5-month period, the upper decks, superstructure, masts, and fine details were built freehand. Time constraints meant the digital design was left unfinished, and to ensure the model would be ready for shipment to Copenhagen in 2015, these elements were constructed directly in brick—on the fly.
  • "Maybe one day the digital file will be completed, but for now, the physical build tells the story.”
  • Construction was spread over several months of evening work between late 2013 and December 2014.
