About Smit Steenbank

• The Steenbank was built in 1960 by Shipyards v/h H.H. Bodewes N.V. in Millingen aan de Rijn, powered by a 1,250 HP engine and designed for harbor service in Rotterdam’s Europoort. Together with her sister ship Schouwenbank, she served as part of a fleet of smaller tugs operating in the city’s busy ports.
• Over the years, she sailed under several names and owners: Astroloog for Smit Internationale Havensleepdiensten (1972), and later Valcke A950 in service with the Royal Belgian Navy (1980). She took part in notable operations, including the 1987 rescue following the capsizing of the Herald of Free Enterprise.
• In 2016, after decades of service, she was saved from scrapping and returned to Maassluis, restored in the colors of the Nieuwe Rotterdamse Sleepdienst, and proudly regained her original name.

The Build

• Commissioned in 2013 by Heijkoop Trading, the model was constructed as a tribute to one of the most iconic tugs ever built in the Netherlands. It combines advanced building techniques with careful research and proportions, recreating the vessel’s strength and grace in LEGO® bricks.
